These Things Can Stain Your Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops have been a staple of kitchen remodeling for decades. Quartz is a durable, nonporous, stone-material that has high resistance to heat, making it a better choice than marble or traditional wood finishes. Because it’s non-porous, it’s not prone to water penetration. This means there are only a few things that can stain its surface, perfect for homeowners who regularly use their kitchens.

Quartz Countertops

Maintaining the pristine appearance of a quartz countertop is fairly easy. Most stains can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Tougher substances can be washed with liquid detergent. Still, it isn’t 100% immune from staining problems. Here are a few items that can cause issues.

Spilled Wine

Be extra careful when drinking wine around your quartz kitchen countertops. The alcohol content in spilled red wine, however little, can penetrate a nonporous surface if it’s left to dry out. This problem isn’t difficult to remedy, however, as many quartz cleaner products can easily dissolve wine stains.

Coffee and Tea

Just like wine, coffee and tea can also leave a mark on a quartz counter when left to dry out. Thankfully, just like wine too, these stains are not permanent and can be cleaned with quartz cleaner and polish.

Paint Thinners

The only time you’ll probably have paint thinners in the vicinity of your quartz counters is when you’re getting a kitchen cabinet refacing. Before your cabinets are painted, cover as much of the surface with a protective tarp to avoid paint and thinners from causing stains.

Incorrect Cleaners

It’s important to stick to a quartz cleaner when removing hard-to-get stains on your quartz countertops. Many common household cleaners have ingredients that are solvent-based, abrasive or a combination of both. These substances could react with the quartz pigments or scrape away its resin finish.
